Glossary
Glossary
As with many fantasy stories, set in various strange worlds, there are bound to be a few terms and words that are alien to us. That's what the glossary is for; a collection of all those strange and alien words, listed and defined for your reference and enjoyment.
◄ General
► Infinity
- The given name for the space between, around, and in our worlds; all-encompassing, Infinity holds every known (and unknown) object, idea, thought, and event. It's hard to reach, and even harder to explain. But it's there.
► Shard
- The given name for a dimension within Infinity. Shards can often be infinitely large on their own, yet all of them are still contained within Infinity itself.
► Fragment
- The name given to a person or being that is a dimensional duplicate, or alternate, of another person or being. Due to some strange quirk in Infinity's workings, many living beings within Infinity are born into a "unit", or a group of beings that share a common link through Infinity. (a unit can spread across multiple seperate Shards, and generally will not consist of more than one fragment per shard.)
The details of this link are very cloudy so far; most fragments in a single unit tend to share common ground with each other at the very least, and often exhibit traits commonly seen amongst twin siblings (such as similar physical appearance and personality traits).
In most cases, fragments share a common link with a finite number of beings, the members of their unit. However, in rare cases, one or more fragments of a unit will share a link with a fragment of another unit entirely, causing a thin link between two units.
► 'Stepper
- A 'Stepper is a person or being who, through ability or some other means, can exit their shard and enter Infinity, allowing travel between shards. A very rare ability; currently, Jio is the only known 'Stepper.
◄ Earth
► Earthling
- "Earthling" is a simple term used to describe a native of Earth, although the term is not popularly used outside of film and fiction; most Earthlings simply refer to themselves as humans, oblivious to the fact that the human species spreads across multiple worlds realities.
◄ Vynaiocc
► Vynaian
- "Vynaian" is a simple term used to describe a native of Vynaiocc. With Vynaiocc lacking the separated continental structure of Earth, the term is used equally in the context of describing natives of the world and natives of the continent.
► Rogue
- In Vynaiocc, a "Rogue" is any person born with special abilities; while uncommon, it's not an especially rare trait in Vynaiocc. Rogues are further categorized as either "Seekers" or "Strays" in most cases (more info below).
► Seeker
- A "Seeker" in Vynaiocc is a Government-sponsored Rogue, or in other words, a Government-controlled Rogue. Most Seekers are enlisted into service to hunt down and recruit other Rogues, as part of the Vynaiocc Government's efforts to put a so-called "leash" on the superpowered Vynaians.
► Stray
- A "Stray" in Vynaiocc is a term used to describe any Rogue who has not been officially sponsored by the Government; normally referring to rebels and outcasts, the term is often used in a derogatory manner, and Strays are often shunned from many towns, due to the inevitable attention they gather from Seekers.
◄ Thera
► Theran
- "Theran" is a simple term used to describe a native of Thera, as well as the most common language used on Thera. Much like Earth, Thera has - or previously had - the same separate terms for natives of its various countries and continents, but such titles have been long forgotten.
► Outlander
- "Outlander" is a term in Thera used to describe the few Therans who choose (or are forced) to live outside of city barriers. While not a derogatory term, the name carries a rather bad reputation; many outlanders are often criminals, scavengers, or otherwise shady characters.
